Kurt Johns
Managing Funeral Director/Employee Owner
Kurt grew up in northern Minnesota and received his Bachelor degrees in Business Administration and Mortuary Science from Augustana University/Sioux Falls and the University of Minnesota/Minneapolis. Kurt also served in the Minnesota and South Dakota Air National Guard while in college.
Following his career path in Iowa and Minnesota, Kurt returned to South Dakota and worked for Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City. In 2014, he moved to Huron and became the managing funeral director of Welter Funeral Home. He is licensed to practice mortuary science in South Dakota and Minnesota. Kurt is active in various Huron community organizations.

Jenny Sorben
Office Administrator/Funeral Arranger
Jenny was born in Sioux Falls, SD and grew up in Huron, SD, graduating from Huron High School in 2005. She attended South Dakota State University graduating with her Bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Studies in 2009. After college, she worked for the South Dakota Department of Social Services-Division of Child Protection Services for two years. In 2012, she became a Licensed Social Worker with the State of South Dakota and worked as the Social Worker at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. In January 2018 she joined the staff of Welter Funeral Home as an Office Administrator and Funeral Arranger.
Jenny is involved in various community organizations including; Grief Support Group, Huron Hockey Association, Holy Trinity Catholic School Development and FSO Boards, Huron Middle School PTA, Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, City of Huron Parks and Recreation Board, and PEO.
Jenny’s family includes her husband Alex and daughters Taylor and Elizabeth.
Jenny enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, reading and going to concerts.

Charles Borchard
Funeral Director/Embalmer
Charles grew up in Southern California and graduated Summa Cum Laude from San Diego Christian College with a BA in Biblical Studies. After earning his Master of Divinity from Gateway Seminary in 2019, he and his wife, Evie, relocated to Huron, SD.
Since 2009, Charles has served churches and ministries in various roles—including Youth Pastor, Director of Operations, Bible Teacher, and Pastor—in California and Huron. Charles maintains licensure as a Pastor through the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference of churches.
In October 2023, Charles joined Welter Funeral Home as a Trainee. He soon earned an Advanced Standing Diploma in Mortuary Science from Des Moines Area Community College, and on April 1, 2025, he was officially licensed as a Funeral Director and Embalmer.
Outside of work, Charles values quality time with Evie and their three daughters. He also serves the Huron community as a pulpit supply preacher, officiant for funeral services, and chaplain for the HRMC Hospice program. The Borchards are active members of Bethesda Church of Huron.
