Willie B. Bill Mead, age 90, of 420 21st St. SW, Huron, died Thursday, May 26, at Stoneybrook Suites in Huron. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 31, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Dale Sattgast and Rev. Christopher Ascher officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening and Tuesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday afternoon. Willie B. Mead was born on June 24, 1914, to Frank and Della (Brown) Mead at Lamar, MO. As a child he moved with his parents to Huron, where he attended school. He was employed at different farms, and also for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Black Hills, and for a number of years with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. In 1935, Bill married Laura Bartel. In the early 1950s, Bill moved to Denver, CO, where he worked as the shipping foreman for Shwader Brothers Corporation which made Samsonite luggage, retiring after 30 years with the company. Bill married Ferol Bute in 1947. After his retirement Bill moved to Huron where he has lived since that time. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, enjoyed bowling in his younger years, gardening and lawn care, and helping his son, Denny, on the farm. He is survived by 4 children, Delores Jones of Huron, Denny (Kathy) Mead of Huron, Cheryl Bradley of Denver, CO, and Phyllis (Bill) Gillies of Rapid City; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his 2 former wives, Laura and Ferol; 1 son, Terry; his twin sister, Lily Evans; and 3 brothers; Earl, Lee, and Floyd.
