William W. Bill Jones, age 87, of 1440 Riverview Drive, Huron, died Friday, November 17, 2006, at his home. His funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Monday, November 20, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be at St. Martin Cemetery. Friends may call this Sunday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Monday morning. There will be a Scripture Service at 4:00 PM this Sunday afternoon at the funeral home with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Elks Scholarship Fund, or Hospice. William W. Jones was born on September 18, 1919, to William W. and Iona (Worthy) Jones in Desart, ND. He graduated from North Dakota State School of Science in 1947 with a degree in engineering. During World War II, Bill was employed for Lockheed Aircraft and Consolidated Vulter Aircraft Corporation in San Diego, CA, where he built planes for the war effort. He was a wartime auxiliary policeman for the city of San Diego. Bill moved to Huron in 1947. On April 25, 1953, Bill married Dorothy H. Smith at St. Johns Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND. He was employed for the Bureau of Reclamation for more than 30 years and the Department of Energy, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and served on the Parish Council, Huron Planning Commission, Sioux Falls Horseless Carriage Club of America, past president of Cerebral Palsy Association, President of the James Valley Model A Club, and a 58 year member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks and served as Exalted Ruler from 1968-1969. Bill designed the City of Huron Baseball Stadium and The Plains. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, time with his family, and especially time spent working, driving or discussing his wonderful Model A. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Huron; 3 children, Tanna (Scott) Kiniry of Millbrook, NY, Terry (Nick) Romey of Templeton, IA, and David (Lynn) Jones of Huron; and 8 grandchildren, Ryan (Karina) Abel of Iowa City, IA, Earl Taylor Abel of Albany, NY, Torrance (Leslie) Jones of Syracuse, NY, Christian Abel of New York, NY, Erin Abel of Poughkeepsie, NY, Cheyanne (David) Hunt of Houston, TX, Laura Romey of Templeton, IA, and Michael Romey of Templeton, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Dean Jones; and 1 sister, Helen Teske.
