William (Willie) Frederick Scheibe was born February 26, 1924, to Wilhelm and Paulina (Heckenliable) Buechler at Virgil, SD. He was one of seven children: Oscar, Hilda, Marlene, Martha, Virginia and Leonora. Both parents preceded them in death in the early 30's. Later he was adopted by Fred and Minnie (Cloeter) Scheibe of Wolsey, SD. Willie was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. F.W. Leyhe of St. John's Lutheran Church, Wolsey. He was also a long-time member of American Lutheran Church in Huron and most recently a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Huron.
William married the love of his life, Doris Tollefson on August 1, 1946 and was blessed for over 64 years as partners and living out their faith on the farm. To this marriage, seven children were born. Doris passed away on May 19, 2011. As hard as the family worked, it was a priority to take time on Sunday morning to attend worship as a family at American Lutheran Church in Huron.
William was a dairy farmer living south of Wolsey until moving to Huron in 1979. He continued farming and dairying with his sons until retiring in 1984. He worked for Wheat Growers Grain Elevator for a time and volunteered at the Dakotaland Museum, Adult Day Care Center, Meals on Wheels, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. He took up woodworking for a hobby and made many items for family and friends. While a resident at the Wellshire apartments, Willie participated in many activities and enjoyed spending time with his friends, being with his children and grandchildren listening to the "sounds" of family around him, and spending time with his special friend, Idel.
