William "Bill" J. Nuhring, age 78, of Huron, passed away on Thursday, December 08, 2016 at his residence.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with interment at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Miller, SD.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13th followed by a scripture prayer service and time of sharing beginning at 7 pm the Welter Funeral Home; or visitation one hour prior to the funeral mass on Tuesday.

Bill was born on December 12, 1937 in Miller, SD to William F. and Gunda (Lapke) Nuhring. He graduated from high school in Miller in 1956.

Bill was united in marriage to Geraldine Mossholder on August 6, 1957. Bill and Geraldine moved to Huron in 1964 where Bill worked for Terrace Park Dairy and later Old Home Bakery while also serving as a volunteer fire fighter for the Huron Fire Department. In August of 1972, Bill became a full time firefighter within the department and during his off time he worked part time in maintenance and lawn care for Pugsley Apartments. He retired from the Huron Fire Department as a Captain on December 11, 2000 after 28 years of dedicated service.

In his earlier years, Bill enjoyed snowmobiling, water skiing, and owning a stock car that he raced at the racetrack in Miller. Later in life he attended various NASCAR races and also enjoyed watching it on TV. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, lawn care, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and was well regarded by his family as the guy who could fix most anything. Bill and Geraldine were longtime owners of a lake cabin on Lake Byron and enjoyed hosting their family and friends at the lake.

Bill is survived by two daughters, Cindie (Jim) Almond of Huron and Christine Olson of Rapid City; six grandchildren, Emily Olson, Adam (Jessica) Olson, Jeremy (Kasey Moeding) Coon, Darmi (Justin Bates) Coon, Sadie Almond, and Chad Almond; nine great-grandchildren, Jaden & Kya Olson, Jakop Coon, Conner & Liamm Trebelcock, Allen Almond, Cylas Bates, Summer & Breana Luedeman; and one sister, Virginia (Bud) Stearns of Colorado Springs.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine on December 20, 2008; two sisters, Patricia Cavenee and Mary Haeffner; one son-in-law, Ron Coon; and two nephews, Mike Stearns and Bob Stearns.
