William Bill Marvel, age 84, of Lake Byron, died on Thursday, December 10, 2009, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
His Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 14, 2009 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, and Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council.
Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Sunday, December 13, at Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Sunday night; or one hour prior to the service on Monday.
William Marvel, the son of Edward and Florence (Morris) Marvel, was born on August 9, 1925, in rural Wessington, SD. He attended schools in the Wessington area. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Navy Seabee, and was honorably discharged.
Bill married Evelyn Palmer after he returned from the Service on June 25, 1944. at Watertown, SD. Bill worked for Armour and Company for 37 years before retiring in 1983.
Bill was a member of the William Reaves American Legion Post #7, the Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776, the Lake Byron Association, and the South Dakota Sheriffs Association. He had an extensive bottle collection and enjoyed collecting coins, fishing, birdwatching, and spending time with his family. Bill enjoyed Lake Byron and the outdoors in general. Visitors were always welcome at Bills Bottle Shop.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his 4 sons: Dave (Mary) Marvel and Steve (Darlene) Marvel both of Huron, SD, Jeff (Rhonda) Marvel of Pierre, SD, and Terry (Doris) Marvel of Dallas, TX; his 3 daughters: Cheryl Wormstadt of Spearfish, SD, Kelly (LeRoy) Halvorson of St. Augustine, FL, and Kim (Clair) Gustafson of Bryant, SD; 14 grandchildren: Cindy, Kevin, Bill, Lynn, Jackie, Doug, Dawn, Jordon, Zachary, Levi, Annemarie, Megan, Shannon, and Jason; 2 great-grandchilden, Damon, and Evelyn; 2 brothers, Robert (Phyllis) Marvel of Aberdeen, SD, and Luverne Louie Marvel of Huron; 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Marvel of Miller, SD, and Hazel Marvel of Sioux Falls, SD; and special friends Denis and Teri Drake of Lake Byron.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Evelyn in 2002: infant daughter, Melanie; son-in-law, Leonard Wormstadt; 4 brothers, Guy, Leonard, Eddie and Jack Marvel; and 2 sisters, Viola Schwartz and Velma Utter.
