William W. Hunter, age 87, of Huron, SD, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Huron Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
His funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
Visitation, with the family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Welter Funeral Home, with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 p.m.; or visitation, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.
William was born December 25, 1929 in Peever, SD to Clarence and Margarete (Trower) Hunter.
William married Alice Eldeen on June 10, 1950 at the Nazarene Church in Huron.
William worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad on the section crew and as the boom truck operator. He retired from the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in 1985.
Willie's favorite times were spent camping with family, playing cards & Rummikub, playing bean bags, woodworking, gardening and the holiday gatherings. The glisten of his eyes was bright whenever the grandkids or great-grandkids were around. William was a member of the Huron Nazarene Church.
Grateful for having shared in William's life are his wife of 66 years, Alice (Eldeen) Hunter of Huron, Willis (Cherry) Hunter of Sioux Falls, Suzanne (George) Wallenstein of Worthing, Debra Metter of Cavour. Grandchildren include Matthew (Angela) Hunter of Castlewood, Micheal (Cass) Hunter of Huron, Marcus (Johanna) Hunter of Sioux Falls, Kerry (Bill) Weeldreyer of Orlando, Florida, Jeremy (Melissa) Wallenstein of Lennox, Justin Wallenstein of Worthing and Casey Metter of Cavour. Nineteen great-grandchildren – Cala, Jakeb, Ella & Landan Hunter, Devin & Mason Hunter, Sawyer & Hanna Hunter; Derek (Brooke) Wallenstein, Dylan (Nikki Wolfe) and Darian Weeldreyer; Braedon, Blayne & Makinleigh Wallenstein; Macy & Olivia Wallenstein; Micah, Taylor & Luxanna Metter; brothers Howard Hunter of Deer Lodge, Montana and Eddie (Elaine) Hunter of Hot Springs, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Albert; sister-in-law, Shirley Hunter; and son-in-law, David Metter.
