Wilbur Krause, age 73, of 375 Dakota Ave South, Huron, and formerly of Alpena, died Saturday, December 29, 2007, at Sanford USD Medical Center at Sioux Falls, SD. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 2nd at the United Parish of Alpena with Rev. Sarah Herman officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 PM Wednesday, at St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery at Java, SD with the Java and Selby Veterans Association. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM or one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday morning. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Wilbur Francis Krause was born on April 16, 1934, to Alex and Mary (Boetcher) Krause at Java, SD. He attended grade school at Java and graduated from Java High school. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict as a radio operator. After his honorable discharge he attended South Dakota State University at Brookings. He was a farmer and rancher from childhood until 1977 when he moved to Woonsocket where he was an oil salesman. On October 16, 1981, Wilbur married Maxine Kistler at Mitchell. They made their home in Prescott Valley, AZ where Wilbur worked at Betterbuilt as a fork-lift operator until 1997 when he retired and they moved to Alpena, SD. He was a member of the Elks Club in Prescott Valley, AZ and Huron, SD; American Legion in Java, SD, Woonsocket, SD, Prescott Valley, AZ, and Alpena, SD; and the United Parish Church of Alpena, SD. His hobbies and interests were elaborate storytelling, fishing, camping, wood-working, and visiting with everyone; no one was a stranger to Wilbur. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Krause of Huron; children, Cindy (Kevin) Rau of Aberdeen, SD, Chloe (Court) Kaelberer of Bozeman, MT, Cathy Lindemann of Aberdeen, SD, Bill (Wendy) Krause of Tucson, AZ, Bob Krause of Lynn Haven, FL, Carla Bossman of Granite Falls, MN, Kim (Julie) Kistler of Phoenix, AZ, Teresa (Gary) Clayton of Gregory, SD, and Jolene (Steve) Passenheim of Alpena, SD; 20 grandchildren, Heather, Matthew Rau; Mandi, Brittney Kaelberer; Sanessa Lindemann; Evan, Erin Krause; Madison Krause; Tanya, Cody, Brier Bossman; Carissa (Bill) Hall; Corey Kistler; Jay (Shelly) Clayton; Zack, Haley Clayton; Alissia (Earl) Hacking; Tracy Delvaux; Chris (Candace) Delvaux; and Brian (Jessica) Passenheim; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Fern (Al) Wenz of Huron; and 1 brother-in-law, Ellwood (Lorraine) Lehr of Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Ben Krause, 1 grandchild and 1 great-grandchild.
