Wenfred Howard Bud Morrison, age 84, of 1113 Wisconsin Ave. SW., Huron, died on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.
His Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the American Lutheran Church, with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 29, from 1-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with the family present from 7-8 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Wenfred H. Morrison, the son of Wenfred H. and Jessie (Plate) Morrison, was born on May 3, 1924, in Huron, SD. Bud grew up in the Alpena and Brookings areas, and graduated from Brookings High School. Bud married June Larson on January 26, 1946. For 68 years, Huron was his home. He was a devoted husband and father.
Bud served as a member of the 82nd Airborne during World War II in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters. After Buds discharge in 1945, he became a member of the 196th Regimental Combat Team, and was mobilized for the Korean Conflict in 1950. Bud concluded his military service as the First Sargeant of Company I 196th Regimental Combat Team.
Bud drove truck for Wilson and All American Trucking. Bud then purchased his own trucks to start Bud and Son Peddle Run. Later, Bud and Bruce owned Buds Transfer and Trailer Cleaning. After his retirement, Bud drove school bus for the Huron School District. His kids gave him great joy. He spoke often of his favorite trips driving the children to the Special Olympic events.
Bud was a member of the American Lutheran Church for many years. He was also a member of the Elks, the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the VFW. Buds favorite pastimes were playing cards, bowling, having been a lifetime member of the Huron Bowling Association, golf, and camping and fishing on the Missouri River.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Bruce (Barb) Morrison, Huron, SD; his daughters, Carol (Denny) Haraldson, Diane (David) Hylland, and Sharon (Bill) Mediger, all of Sioux Falls, SD; 10 grandchildren: Staci Schiller of Sioux Falls, SD, Steven Schiller and his fiance, Heather Goehring, of Sioux Falls, Caryn Haraldson, Chaska, MN, Deb (Lonny) Harrowa of Rapid City, SD, Nikki Morrison of Huron, SD, Tara (Tony) Brown of Lincoln, NE, Adam (Amber) Morrison of Huron, SD, Jessie (Mike) Winter of Sioux Falls, SD, Jamie (John) Starcevich of Olathe, KS, and Kyle (Angela) Mediger of Parker, CO; 14 great grandchildren, Morgan, Lucas, Spencer, Addysen Morrison, and Rylea, Peyton, and Lilliana Morrison, Vaughn Brown, Sheridyn Winter, Ashlee and Lauren Harrowa, Kendall and Karlie Starcevich, and Wynnter Mediger; his sister, Deloris (Joe) Wipf, Rapid City, SD; his sister-in-law, Audrey (Duane) Fodness, Lennox, SD; step mother, Daisy Morrison, Huron, SD; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Buddy.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June in 2004; and two grandsons, Cory Mediger, and Chad Morrison.
