Wayne A. Swaney, age 94, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, Huron, died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Huron Christian Church with Rev. Alan Wager officiating. Burial will be at the Bonilla Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM or one hour prior to the service at the church Tuesday morning. Wayne A. Swaney was born on November 28, 1913, to Ransom and Phoebe (Geise) Swaney on a farm northwest of Bonilla. He attended grade school in the Bonilla area and graduated from Bonilla High School. On April 14, 1933, Wayne married Mildred Miller at the Presbyterian Church in Huron. They lived in the Burdette, SD area until 1942 when they moved to a farm in the Bonilla area. He farmed until November of 1966, when they moved to Minneapolis, MN where he was employed at the Grison Hydraulic plant until his retirement. In the early 1980s they moved to Huron where they have lived since that time. He was a member of the Huron Christian Church and his interests were woodworking, fishing and riding his horses. He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Mildred Swaney of Huron; two daughters, Merry (Clayton) Burton of Hitchcock and Pat Saarie of Freeman; one son-in-law, Lyle Mullner of Wyoming; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rita Mullner, son-in-law, Michael Saarie, his parents, father and mother-in-law, Al and Loren Miller, one sister, Grace Miller, and four brothers, Bill, Lawrence, Laird and Lloyd Swaney.
