Wayne Lemke, age 66, of Huron, SD, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2, at First Presbyterian Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 5-8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Wayne Theodore Lemke, son of August and Janet (Van Heuvelen) Lemke, was born on November 29, 1944, in Huron, SD. He attended school in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1963. He attended and graduated from Huron College in 1967 with a Bachelors degree in business. On September 4, 1966, during his senior year in college, Wayne married Phyllis Berg in Huron. Following Wayne's graduation from college, the couple moved to Mitchell for 1 year where Wayne worked for the State Health Department, and then to Pierre for 3 years, where he worked in the same capacity. Their next move was to Ft. Dodge, IA, where Wayne was a business salesman for Burroughs Business Forms & Sales Group. After 2 years they returned to Huron where they have resided through the present. In Huron, he owned/operated a bulk oil business; was production supervisor of Innovative Industries; and supervisor of the Huron Mall. He retired in 1993 due to ill health. Wayne was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church and was very active as an ordained elder of the church, Sunday school teacher, confirmation teacher, mission committee member, 1st committee member, and founder of the church's annual rummage sale. His many interests included camping, boating, fishing, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, playing sports and watching the same on television, and reading. He followed his children in their sports endeavors as they grew up and attended all of their high school events. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Huron; 1 son, Jason (Tabatha) Lemke of Worthing; 2 daughters, Carrie Lemke of Huron, and Becki Lemke of Huron; 1 grandchild, Zoey August Lemke; 2 brothers, Dale (Lonna) Lemke of Moorhead, MN, and Keith (Marlus) Lemke of Huron; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Lois Monson; and 1 brother-in-law, Ken Monson.
