Obituary

Wayne Garbe, age 71, of Huron, SD, formerly of rural Virgil, SD, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be 10:30 am Monday, July 15, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Sunday from 6-8 pm at Welter Funeral Home with a scripture service at 7:00 pm; or Monday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Wayne Martin Garbe, son of Martin and Mabel (Burma) Garbe, was born on December 15, 1941, in Alpena, SD. He spent his entire life on the family homestead south of Virgil. He attended school in Virgil through the 8th grade, and high school in Alpena graduating in 1960. On June 3, 1961, Wayne married Judy Keleher in Woonsocket, SD. Wayne farmed the homestead until ill health forced his retirement. Wayne and Judy moved to Huron in December 2011. He was presently a member of Carlyle Township Board of Directors and Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Wayne loved his family and the time that he spent with them. Wayne truly enjoyed meeting people and visiting with everyone he met. His passion was farming and ranching with his two sons. Wayne's hobbies included shooting pool, riding his horse, and dancing. He was especially proud of shooting pool with his son, Terry, and their team winning the state pool tournament two years in a row and shooting pool in the National Pool Tournament in Las Vegas. Wayne faithfully followed his children and grandchildren in their sporting events and activities. He is survived by his wife, Judy of Huron; 3 children, Gary (Sheila) Garbe of Virgil, Terry (Paula) Garbe of Virgil, and Renee (Jeff) Younie of Alpena; 12 grandchildren, Tiffany Tebay, Deana Ashby-Watkins, Brandy Plumb, Shelly Siemonsma, Keelee Peterson, Chancie Garbe, Ray Glanzer, Wendy Overweg, Stephanie Garbe, Brittany Garbe, Mandy Younie, and Mitchell Younie; 16 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Linda (Dick) Easton of Wessington Springs, and Diane (Lowrance) Horn of Gillette, WY; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
