Wanda Preston, age 88, of Huron, SD, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at American Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Friday, July 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Wanda Virginia Rund was born on October 25, 1925 to Christ and Anne (Anderson) Rund in rural Hayti, SD, Hamlin County. She was baptized and confirmed at New Hope Lutheran Church in rural Hayti. Wanda attended rural elementary school Oxford #6 and graduated in 1943 from DeSmet High School. She attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls, SD, and Northwest College of Commerce in Huron, SD. Wanda moved to Watertown, SD, in 1944 where she was employed as a bookkeeper and general office worker. On March 15, 1946, Wanda married Philip J. Doto in Sioux City, IA. The couple lived in Watertown until moving to Huron in 1946. For ten years Wanda was a full-time wife and mother. In 1957 she began working at the state office of the USDA Soil and Conservation Service. Her husband, Philip, died on February 28, 1970. On November 17, 1973, Wanda married Max Preston at American Lutheran Church in Huron. They continued to live in Huron. Wanda retired as budget analyst for the USDA office on January 3, 1986, after nearly 25 years of service. The couple traveled extensively for 15 years and spent their winters in Meza, AZ. Wanda was a member of American Lutheran Church and the Rebecca Circle of ELCA Women; Huron Area Senior Center and RSVP; NARFE; the Belle's and Beau's Square Dance Club; and the Dakota Wheelers NSDCA. Wanda is survived by one son, Jim (Marissa) Doto of Sartell, MN; daughter-in-law, Kathy Doto of Richland, WA; 4 grandchildren: Pamela (Rik) Jones of Pasco, WA and Zoey, Elijah, and Sydney Doto of Sartell, MN; great-granddaughter, Alison Jones of Richland, WA; 3 step-sons, Larry Preston of Silverthorne, CO, Conrad (Pam) Preston of Ottertail, MN, and Todd Preston of Kremmling, CO; 2 brothers-in-law, Curtis (Beverley) Preston of Union, WA, and Carl Benthin of Minneapolis, MN.. She was preceded in death by her parents; her 2 husbands, Phillip J. Doto and Max Preston; son, Phillip C. Doto on May 12, 1993; 2 sisters, Ruby (Alvin) Russett and Belvina Benthin.
