Wallace Wally Haerer, age 53, of 619 Frank Ave. SE, Huron, died Friday, August 26, 2005, at the Huron Regional Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 30th at the Huron Christian Church with Rev. Alan Wager officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening and Tuesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday afternoon. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Wallace Haerer was born on October 22, 1951, to Wallace and Norma (Foster) Haerer at Miller, SD. He attended McKinley Elementery School and graduated from Huron High School. He was drafted into the United States Army on January 21, 1970. After his honorable discharge from the United States Army he moved to Eveleth, MN and was employed with US Steel and Aqua Dynamics. In 1973, Wally married Sue Kahtava. They lived in Minnesota and in 1992 he moved to Carthage, SD and to Huron in 1995 where he has lived since that time. He was employed with Scott Olson Digging Inc. until the time of his illness. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by one son, Wallace (Krista) Haerer of Gilbert, MN; one daughter, Danielle Wright of Virginia, MN; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Avery and Erin; four sisters, Ellen (Stacey) Fildes of Huron, Ruby Bornitz of Huron, Dorothy (Jeff) Ingle of Wessington Springs and Gail (Mike) Jensen of Rapid City; one brother Kenneth Swearingen of Huron; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Casket bearers will be Tom Johnson, Gary Hillberg, Russell Keating, Dan Fowler, Scott Olson and Mike Roskoski.
