Wallace Windy Krutzfeldt, age 80, of 1307 2nd St. SW, Huron, died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at his home. His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 2, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. Burial will be at Ideal Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday morning until time of service at the funeral home. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the donors choice. Wallace John Hugo Krutzfeldt was born on November 12, 1924, to Hugo and Emma (Backer) Krutzfeldt on a farm near Virgil, SD, where he lived until graduating from high School in 1943. On December 29, 1943, Wallace enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged on May 1, 1946. He then returned to the farm where he worked for a short period of time. On May 18, 1948, Wallace married Maxine Petersen at Huron. The couple made their home in Huron where Wallace worked for D. Urquhart and Sons Car Dealership as a mechanic, and for Sibley Motors as a mechanic until his retirement in 1990. His family was first and foremost in his life; and his many interests included fishing, hunting, sports especially baseball which he played in his younger years, traveling, and tinkering with small engines. He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Huron; 1 daughter, Mary Jane (Stephen) Stevens of Huron; 1 grandson, Lucas Stevens of Huron; 1 brother, Clarence (Ruth) Krutzfeldt of Virgil; and 2 brothers-in-law, Dwayne (Loretta) Petersen of Huron, and Richard (Frances) Petersen of Derby, KS; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
