Wade A. Woodfork, age 66, of Huron, SD, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
His memorial service will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011, at First United Methodist Church in Huron with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council.
Visitation will be one half hour before the service at the church.
Wade Allen Woodfork was born March 26, 1944, in Doland, South Dakota to Oscar and Loverne (Lancaster) Woodfork. Wade graduated from Doland High School in 1962 and excelling in all sports, setting the school record in 180 yard low hurdles.
After graduation, Wade went to the Black Hills to work on the Minutemen and Titan missile sights. He was drafted into the Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam from 65 to 66. Wade was in the operating engineers and ran different sized cranes all over Southern Vietnam. He returned from Vietnam in November of 1966 and was stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA, where he was a crane operator instructor to OCS, Special Forces and Officers enter Operating Engineers Corp.
After being discharged from the Army, Wade returned to Wyoming to work in the Open Pit coal and uranium mines. He was a truck supervisor at the mines in Jeffrey City WY, Green Mountain, WY, and in Gillette, WY.
Wade met his future wife, Linda Moeding in 1989, and they have been together ever since, getting married in Huron on November 4, 2010.
Wade is survived by his wife, Linda of Huron; son, Shad Woodfork of Washington; daughter, Sundi (Craig) Stauffer of Washington; step-daughter, Tammy Keenihan of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren; brothers, Wayne (Kay) Woodfork of Bellflower, CA, and Oscar (Carol) Woodfork of Redfield, SD; sisters, Violet Brockhoft of Watertown, SD, Bernice (Oscar) Solheim of Frankfort, SD, Marge Sterner of Redfield, SD, Loretta Johnson of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law, Lillian Woodfork of Doland; many nieces and nephews.
Wade was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Erma (Roy) Cunningham; and brother, Milford Woodfork.
