W. Ruth Korkow, age 83, of Huron, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012, at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, SD. Her graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Winifred Ruth Korkow, the daughter of William H. and Winifred (Ridgway) Ormond, was born on August 16, 1928, in Huron, SD. She attended school and graduated from Huron High School in 1946. Ruth also attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillian, SD. She worked as a secretary in Pierre, SD, for 6 years. Ruth married Arnold L. Korkow on June 14, 1949, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Huron. The couple lived in Pierre, SD, before moving back to Huron, SD, in 1954. Ruth worked as both secretary and dispatcher from home for the family business, the Fair City Transport Service for 20 years. Ruth was a great mother and made it a point to always be there for her family. Ruth was a member of the St. Martin's Catholic Church and the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Ruth loved gardening and playing the piano. She also loved animals. Ruth's roots ran deep, she loved her hometown Huron, and spent her whole life here. Grateful for having shared in Ruth's life is her daughter, Nancy (Dennis) Wiedmeier of Redfield, SD. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Arnold "Bus" in 2007. Memorials may be made in Ruth's name to the Beadle County Humane Society.
