Vivian M. Carter, the daughter of Frank and Gertrude (Edwards) Carter was born on March 19, 1923 near Letcher, SD. Her family moved into Letcher when she was very young. Vivian attended school in Letcher and graduated from Letcher High School in 1941. She also received her teaching certificate from Notre Dame Academy in Mitchell, SD. On August 4, 1945 Vivian married Richard G. Eden in Denver, CO. The couple made their home on the same farm in Grant Township, Beadle County for 56 years.
Vivian taught in one-room schools in Sanborn and Beadle County for 26 years. After retiring from teaching, Vivian worked in the office at Huron Regional Medical Center and also helped on the farm when needed.
Vivian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron. She enjoyed reading, listening to CDs, watching television, and spending time with her family, friends, and grandchildren. Vivian planted trees and flowers, and was always making improvements to the family farm. She was always interested with how the farm was progressing even when her health forced her to move to the SunQuest Healthcare Center, where she thankfully resided for 5 years.
