Virginia "Gin" Fenske, age 84, of Huron, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at SunQuest Healthcare Center. Her funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Friday, May 30, from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. All memorials given in memory of Gin will be used to purchase Military Bible Sticks for the United States Armed Forces. Virginia Susie Fenske, the daughter of Edward and Susie (Tschetter) Walz, was born on June 18, 1929, in Yale, SD, (Beadle County) and was raised on the family farm. She was baptized in her youth and confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wichita, TX, on August 25, 1953. She attended Edison Country School north of Huron through the 8th grade and was graduated from Huron High School in 1947. Virginia "Gin" and Eugene "Gene" Fenske were married on May 20, 1953, at Pipestone, MN, and then she joined him in Wichita Falls, TX, where Gene was in the U.S. Air Force. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May of 2013. During their married years they resided in Wichita Falls, TX, Moses Lake, WA, Ephrata, WA, (where they were charter members of Our Savior Lutheran Church), and rural Woonsocket, SD. They moved to Huron in April of 2010 and were members of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church for many years. Gin worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company beginning in her high school years until 1961 when she entered St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, because of a brain aneurysm. She was there for 6 months until Gene brought her home, and family and friends worked with and for her to bring her to the point where she was until now. She always supported Gene in his taking care of her and making decisions for her for 50 plus years, and she always accompanied Gene in his activities. Along with attending church, Bible Study, and church activities, she enjoyed listening to people, traveling, eating out, embroidering, and playing dominoes, especially with Gene, grandchildren, and in-laws. She thoroughly enjoyed seeing pictures of anyone who took the time to show them their children and grandchildren, and she loved jewelry and the Avon Lady. She loved SunQuest Healthcare Centerthe nurses, aides, volunteers, beauticians, and manicurists, etc. Survivors include her daughter, Pamala (David) Zirpel of Sioux City, IA); 4 grandchildren: Christopher Houlihan (fiancé Megan) of Parker, SD, Christina Zirpel, Caleb Zirpel, and Zac Zirpel; 3 great-grandchildren: Tylor Houlihan, Evan Houlihan, and Kyler Zirpel; 1 brother: Ivan (Tilly) Walz of Huron, SD; 3 sisters: Clara (Clea) Heisel of Aumsville, OR, Darlene Baltzer of Huron, SD, and Donna (Gene) VanDeipen of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces & nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, Edward (1973) & Susie (1960) Walz; husband, Gene (2014); son, Gregory (1989); 2 brothers: Clarence Walz and Edwin Walz; in-laws: Ervin & Cleone Fenske & Neda Fenske; Oscar Baltzer; Clarence & Helen Walz; and Edwin & Bernie Walz.
