Violet Phillips, age 74, of Huron died Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Her memorial service will be 10:30 am Friday, March 27, 2015 at American Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Riverside Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Violet V. Phillips was born on December 28, 1940 to Mike and Mabel (Peterson) Van Heel in Sisseton, South Dakota. She attended One Road Township School for several years before attending school in Sisseton. Violet graduated from Sisseton High School in 1959. She moved to Huron to baby sit for her sister Muriel and attended Northwestern College for one year. Violet marred Dallas Phillips in Pipestone, MN in 1961. The couple later divorced. Violet worked for the Beadle County ASCS office for almost 20 years, then the Huron Housing Authority for five years, and then Experience Works for four years. Violet enjoyed fishing, darts, bowling, gardening, canning, cooking, and baking. Violet is survived by her two daughters, Darla (Jerry) Nelson Cypress, TX, Kathy Phillips of Huron; one grandson, Tyler Phillips of Spearfish, SD; one sister, Marlys Hofer of Fargo, ND; brother-in-law, John Ingle of Huron; several nieces and nephews. Violet was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Wayne Van Heel; two half-brothers, John and Earl Warring; and one sister, Muriel Ingle.
