Violet Loeffelbein, age 98, of Amarillo, Texas, and formerly of Huron, died Sunday, October 9, 2005, at Odyssey Hospice at Amarillo. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 15, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday morning until time of service at the funeral home. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Fillmore Street, Amarillo, TX 79110. Violet Loeffelbein was born Violet Evelyn Smith on August 4, 1907, to Orville and Viola (Roberts) Smith at Bayard, NE. She attended schools in Bayard graduating from Bayard High School and later from Bayard Business College. On October 7, 1928, Violet married Ewald Loeffelbein at Bridgeport, NE. The couple lived at Alliance, NE, until 1945, when they moved to Huron. Violet worked for many years for Beadle County in Huron in the offices of Clerk of Courts, Auditors, and Register of Deeds. She worked at the Beadle County Abstract and Title Company and eventually owned the company. She retired in 1975. She was a past member of American Lutheran Church, Bell choir and Womens Circle, past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge, Rhythm Ramblers, Royal Neighbors of America, Altrusa, Historical Society, Business and Professional Women, Pink Ladies at the Huron Regional Medical Center, Civic-Social-Fraternal Club, and the Huron Area Senior Center. When her children were in school she was active in the PTA, the Boy Scouts, and the Girl Scouts. Her son and daughter-in-law owned and operated the Northern Sports Store in Huron where she helped out. She enjoyed traveling, and her family was a great part of her life. She is survived by 1 son, Dean (Phyllis) Loeffelbein of Amarillo, TX; 12 grandchildren; 25 grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Viola Smith; her husband, Ewald on May 29, 1969; her daughter, Alta Arteman; 1 sister, Dora Smith; 2 brothers, Lyle Smith, and Lewis Smith; 1 granddaughter, Laura Lee Loeffelbein; 1 great grandson, Caleb Atkins; 1 brother-in-law, Bill Arteman; and 2 sisters-in-law, Rachel Smith, and Audrey Smith.
