Viola Schwartz, age 90, of Aberdeen, and formerly of 948 Montana Ave. SW, Huron, died Sunday, December 26, 2004, at Avera St. Lukes Hospital at Aberdeen. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 30, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Linda Renaud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening and Thursday until time of service at the funeral home. Viola Marvel was born on April 21, 1914, to Edward and Florence (Morris) Marvel in Sand Creek Township near Wessington, SD. She grew up in Wessington where she attended school and graduated from Wessington High School in 1934. On April 27, 1934, Viola married Raymond Schwartz. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Huron. Vi worked at J.J. Newberry Department Store for many years, retiring in 1979. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church, and the Garden Club, and presently a member of First United Methodist Church, Huron Area Senior Center, and RSVP. She loved being able to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her many interests included flower and vegetable gardening, canning, cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, playing solitaire, and doing crossword puzzles. She entered many of her home-cooked recipes at the SD State Fair and received numerous Blue Ribbons over the years. She also liked to go camping and fishing with her husband, Ray. Her joyful companion in her later years was Charlie, her Irish Setter. She is survived by 1 daughter, Shirley Peters of Glendale, AZ; 2 sons, Dale Schwartz of Oceanside, CA, and Kevin (Cheryl) Schwartz of Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren, Dawn (Michael) Rifkin, Tammy (Ed) Robbins, Nicole (Ed) Cox, Rodney (Nadine) Peters, Rick (Jenni) Schwartz, David Schwartz, Brady Schwartz, Justin Schwartz, Jared Schwartz, Amanda Schwartz, and Jason Schwartz; 10 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Robert (Phyllis) Marvel of Aberdeen, William Marvel of Lake Byron, and Luverne Louie Marvel of Huron; 2 sisters-in-law, Hazel Marvel of Sioux Falls, and Betty Marvel of Wessington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond on October 27, 1983; 4 brothers, Guy, Leonard, Eddie, and Jack Marvel; 1 sister, Velma Utter; 4 sisters-in-law, Evie, Helen, Ruth, and Marge Marvel; 1 brother-in-law, Johnny Utter.
