Viola Puterbaugh, age 91, of Cavour died Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be 10:30 am Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, south of Cavour, with burial in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a prayer service at 6:30 pm; or one hour prior to the service at the church. Viola Pauline Hein was born on August 6, 1923 to Oscar and Lena (Jablinski) Hein in Beadle County, South Dakota. She attended rural Beadle County country schools through the elementary grades and then attended Cavour High School. Viola married Ervin Puterbaugh in Huron on November 1, 1939. They lived and farmed near Cavour for 66 years, retiring in 1978. She also sold Avon and Tupperware products. Viola also worked for a time as a custodian at the Cavour School. Both Viola and Ervin drove school bus for over 19 years for the Iroquois School District. The couple also hosted a group of pheasant hunters from Chicago for over 35 years. Viola was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she held several offices for the church, including as president of the women's church group. She loved to make and sell crafts. Viola and Ervin liked to camp and travel, making yearly trips to the Black Hills. Viola is survived by her three sons, Allan (Jean) Puterbaugh of Ruthven, IA, Gerald (Ann) Puterbaugh of Cavour, Perry (Betty) Puterbaugh of Huron; one daughter, Deanna (Tom) Moeding of Cavour; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hein of Texas; serveral nieces and nephews. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ervin Puterbaugh in 2006; grandchild, Anthony Puterbaugh in 1965; four great grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond Hein, Lester (Clara) Hein, Ed (Dorothy) Hein; and one sister, Irene (John) DeJong.
