Viola Smith, age 92, of 50 7th St. SE. Huron, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 15, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call this Wednesday afternoon and evening and Thursday morning until time of service at the funeral home. Viola Margaret Frances Smith was born on February 13, 1914, to Clarence and Rosa (Better) Smith at Broadland, SD. As a young child she moved with her family to Cumberland, WI, where they lived for several years and Viola received her education. After the death of her father, Viola and her mother returned to Huron where Viola has lived since that time. Viola worked for a short period of time at Tucks Caf in Huron, and then attended Northwest College of Commerce in Huron where she studied business and office management. In 1941, she began a 45-year career working in the office at the Huron Clinic retiring on December 20, 1986. Viola was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Degree of Honor Society. She loved sewing, crocheting and tatting, and entered many of her creations at the South Dakota State Fair and won many prizes for her work. She dressed teddy bears for the Teddy Bears for Love auction held annually for the YWCA. She loved the time that she could spend with her flower and vegetable garden and the fruit trees that she grew there. Viola is survived by cousins, Barbara Schultz of Huron, Luverne (Juanita) Better of Wolsey, Betty Jean (Tom) Flolo of Huron, Jaunnett Reid of Phoenix, AZ, Larry (Sharon) Smith of Minnesota, Annett Nelson of Huron, Michael (Kimann) Schultz of Indianapolis, IN, and many other cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Donald Smith; and her sister-in-law, Joan Smith.
