IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Victor Edgar
Dracy
May 13, 1930 – December 19, 2015
Victor Dracy was introduced to the Christian faith by Elmer Bartel. Victor was baptized, confirmed and became a member of the St. John's Missouri Synod Lutheran Church.
At 18, Victor was diagnosed with degenerative back problems. At 21, Victor had one of the first spinal fusions at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. For recovery, he was required to lay flat on his back for an entire year. Victor started working construction with his brother-in-law Leonard Linafelter in the Alpena area. Shortly after that, he met the love of his life, Eileen Neuharth. Victor married Eileen on November 27, 1955 in Alpena, SD. They moved to a farm South of Wolsey where they had two children, Vicki and David.
Farming was tough, and Victor turned to carpentry for support. He built houses in Montana and South Dakota for two years before returning to a small farm Northwest of Wolsey. Victor and his family farmed and did construction work until he retired from farming in 1981. They moved into a house Victor built for them in Wolsey. He continued with construction until 2005 when he fully retired. Victor was always proud of the many young men who worked for him over the years and considered them his personal friends.
Victor and Eileen were members of the Wolsey First Presbyterian Church and later the First Presbyterian Church of Huron. Over the years, Victor served as an elder at Wolsey Presbyterian Church and served on the Wolsey School Board. His hobbies were playing cards, checkers, dominoes, dancing, singing, and playing his harmonica.
Victor was so grateful for all the friends and the support he had over the years. He enjoyed the opportunity to work on all the buildings and projects people entrusted to him.
Victor is survived by his wife, Eileen, of Huron; son, David (Linda) Dracy of Yankton; daughter Vicki (Cal) Jarabek of Fargo, ND; six grandchildren, Bryan (Raquel) Jarabek, Eric (Laura) Jarabek, Dawn (Keenan) Henseler, Dana (Cole) Larson, Danielle (Justin) Frick, and Kimberly Jarabek; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Susie Linafelter of Great Falls, MT, Elsie Welch of St. Lawrence; and close friends, Dennis Holm and Harry Marone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mabel Dracy; his sisters, Thelma Bentz and Pearl Getscher; and his toddler brother, Oscar John Dracy.
