Obituary

Victor J. Cordell, age 68, of Huron died at his home on Sunday, January 9, 2011.

His Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at Restlawn Cemetery in Huron.

His Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday night, with a Rosary to begin at 5:30 p.m., and a prayer service to begin at 7:00 p.m.; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Victor J. Cordell, the son of Jack and Mary Jane (Byer) Cordell was born on April 23, 1942 in Watertown, SD. He graduated from Brookings High School. Victor worked as a journeyman lineman for Basin Electric and L.E. Meyers for many years.

Victor married Doris Friman on October 4, 1963 in Salt Lake City, UT. The couple lived in Nebraska, Minnesota, and Michigan before moving to Huron, SD in the early 80s.

Victor was a member of the St. Martin Catholic Church and the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #426 out of Sioux Falls, SD, and the Moose Lodge. Victor enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying airplanes. Vic loved country music and had his own band, The Victor Cordell Band. He loved to travel to the various nursing homes, including the SunQuest Healthcare Center and the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home, and play his music for the residents.

Grateful for having shared in Victors life are his wife, Doris, of Huron; 2 daughters, Nancy (Jay) Kannenberg, of Huron, and Peggy Luckett, of Huron, SD; 6 grandchildren, Zac Kannenburg, Jacksonville, NC, Coal Kannenberg, Huron, SD, Tyler Luckett, of Watertown, SD, Heather (Kody Fridley) Luckett, of Artesian, SD, Mercedez Luckett, of Huron, SD, and Chas (Clint Erickson) Reimer-Kannenberg, of Renner, SD; 5 great-grandchildren: Corbin, Shila, Henry, Dylan,and Landyon; 3 brothers, Dave (Michelle) Cordell, of Copemish, MI, Ronnie (Sandra) Cordell, of Lebanon, SD and Chester (Colleen) Cordell, of Marvin, SD; several sisters and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents; his son Doug Cordell; and 2 granddaughters, Skyla and Kristy.
