Obituary

Verne Brodersen, age 86, of 438 5th St. NE, Huron, died Monday, October 18, 2004, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, October 21, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Dale Sattgast officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Thursday morning. The family will be meeting at 2021 Ohio Ave SW, Apt. #3, in Huron. Vernon R. Brodersen was born on March 11, 1918, to John H. and Lena (Mattke) Brodersen at Huron, SD. He was confirmed at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He attended Huron Public Schools and graduated from Huron High School in 1936. He was inducted into the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge on June 6, 1941. He was employed at Armour and Company for a number of years. On March 13, 1943, Verne married Helen Hageman at Huron. Verne was employed with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He was a barber in Huron and later was employed with the South Dakota Highway Department until his retirement in 1983. His wife, Helen, died on September 1, 1984. Verne continued to live in Huron. On June 12, 1987, Verne married Betty Cowing at Huron. On November 20, 1993, Verne married Agnes Johnston at Huron. The couple made their home at Huron. Verne enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Agnes of Huron; 1 sister, Joy (John) McGregor of New Effington, SD; 4 step-children, Connie (Nick) Brod of Akron, OH, Phillip (Mary Lou) Johnston of Clovis, NM, Erma (Jim) Wilson of Huron, and Dawn Jensen of Vermillion; 10 step-grandchildren, 7 step-great grandchildren; 2 nieces and 2 nephews, Mary Skole of Westminster, CO, John (Sandra) Johnson of Fremont, NE, David (Elaine) Johnson of Shelby, NC, and Gorga (Kim) Gallion of Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Helen.
