Verna Ondricek, age 99, of Huron, SD, died Friday, November 30, 2012, at SunQuest Healthcare Center. Her body has been cremated and burial of her cremated remains will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 6, at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Verna Ondricek was born Verna M. Kopecky, daughter of August and Mary (Bouzek) Kopecky, on a farm near Highmore, SD. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Highmore High School in 1931. In 1931 Verna married Joseph Ondricek. They farmed in Hyde County near Highmore until 1945 when they moved to Huron. Verna was employed at Armour & Company in Huron. In 1964 the couple moved to California; back to Hyde County in 1971; and to Huron again in 1987. Verna became a resident of SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron in December 2011. She was a member of various extension clubs. Her interests included gardening, quilting, crafts, and playing cards. Over the years she traveled extensively to many states west of the Mississippi River. She loved her family dearly and felt truly blessed with her great grandchildren. Verna is survived by 1 son, Burton (Betty) Ondricek of Somerset, CA; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 2 daughters-in-law, Nila Ondricek of Huron and Linda Ondricek of Hollister, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe on August 15, 1966; 2 sons, Myron Ondricek and Joey Ondricek; 1 grandson, Ricky Ondricek; 1 brother, Glen (Clara) Kopecky; and 2 sisters, Avis (Bill) Gilbert and June (Leonard) Lavigne.
