Verla V. Fischer, age 93, of Parkston, formerly of Huron, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston, SD. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron, SD, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in rural Wessington, SD. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 7, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Verla V. Hins, the daughter of Edward and Sophia (Tiede) Hins, was born on October 4, 1921 at home in rural Wessington, SD. She attended grade school at the Bell country school. Verla married Ancel C. Fischer on November 26, 1944 at Alpena, SD. The couple made their home in rural Wessington for four years until moving to Huron. The couple farmed in Hand Couty south of Wessington and trucked during the winter months. Growing up Verla was a member of New Zion Congregational Church where she played organ, piano, and directed the choir for many years. She was also a member of Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron and the Congregational Church Spinning Wheel Circle. She enjoyed music, playing the organ, and playing in the church bell choir. She also loved sewing. After retirement, Verla and her late husband, Ancel loved to travel and would travel south for the winters. Grateful for having shared in Verla's life are her granddaughter, Rebecca Fischer of Sioux Falls, SD; great-granddaughter, Izabella Braden; honorary granddaughter, Nicole Gilbert of Scotland, SD; and many nieces and nephews. Verla was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ancel in 1989; son, Lyle Fischer in 1990; brother, Orville Hins; two sisters, Lenatt Peterson and Erna Hall; and daughter-in-law, Darlis Fischer.
