Venencia A. (VA) Sunderman, age 86, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 4 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at St. Martins Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-6 pm with the family present from 4-6 pm on Monday, September 3 with a scripture service and rosary at 6 pm at Welter Funeral Home.

Venencia Ann McGlone was born on May 18, 1932 in Sioux Falls to Bill and Vera (McCullion). VA attended and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950. After graduation, VA went to work as a buyer for Shriver Clothing. VA married Edward Sunderman on September 8, 1951 in Sioux Falls.  They made their homes in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, and then finally in Huron in 1959. Along with raising her family, VA worked for the Huron School District in different capacities including being a lunch lady, serving malts in the high school lunchroom, working in the snack bar in the high school lounge, and also as para educator in both special education and title.

Faith, family, and friends were important to VA. She was a strong believer in the Irish Catholic faith, a regular churchgoer, but most of all a true Christian. She was always putting everyone first and never had a harsh word to say about anyone. VA was always finding the good in people.  She was very proud of her Irish heritage.  With her fiery red hair, and quick wit, everyone loved her and she loved them.  Everyone she met, she treated with kindness and respect. She made you feel like you were a part of her family.  VA treasured her time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, especially weekends at the lake, holiday gatherings, or anytime they were able to be together.  Wherever VA was, laughter could be heard.

She is survived by her three sons: Mike (Connie) Sunderman of Sioux City, IA, Bill (Karen) Sunderman of Huron, and Tom Sunderman of Huron; three daughters: Liz (Bill) Fisher of Huron, Kathy (Ron) Curr of Huron, Judy (Ted) Haley of Lilydale, MN; twelve grandchildren: Jill (Brad) Jurgens, Tim (Sarah) Sunderman, Tyler (Terra) Fisher, Amy (Justin) Lindquist, Brian Curr, Christy (Josh) Vangsness, Laura (Jim) Allen, Jeff Sunderman, Sam (AJ Tischleder) Haley, Abby Haley, Josh Haley, and Erin Haley; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward in 1997, her parents, infant daughter, Mary, and sister and brother-in-law, Beth (Gene) Karjala.
