Obituary

Velma Klamm Pearson, age 91, of 1855 3rd St. SW, Huron, died Monday, July 31, 2006, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Friday, August 4, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday until time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. Velma Pearson was born Velma Mae Horsten on October 13, 1914, to William and Myrtle (Shaw) Horsten on the family farm southwest of Wessington Springs, SD. She attended Fagerhaug Country School near her home. She remained on the family farmstead until early adulthood when she moved to Madison, SD, where she worked in a family home service capacity. On August 16, 1942, Velma married Albert Klamm in Nebraska. They lived in Madison where Velma worked as an independent sales representative and at restaurants. Her husband, Albert, died when he was 59 years old. In 1966, Velma moved to Huron where she owned and operated her own business managing rental properties. On March 3, 1977, Velma married Henry Pearson. Henry died in 1988. She continued her career until January of 2006 when she became a resident of the Huron Nursing Home. She was a past member St. Johns Lutheran Church at Madison; horse-riding clubs in Huron, Yale, and Hitchcock; and avidly supported 4-H and veterans groups. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life and she spent as much time with them as she could. Her many interests that she enjoyed were working outside and her beloved horses, cat and dog. She is survived by 4 daughters, Donna Cihak of Huron, Shirley Frazier of Huron, Ardis Wilde of Brookings, and Carrie (Terry) Poncelet of Huron; 12 grandchildren, Terry (Randy) Mages, Sherry (Mark) Stoll, Nick Cihak, Anthony Cihak, Angela (Mike) Brummond, Bret (Jennifer) Wilde, Cory (Jaci) Wilde, Dan (Stephanie) Wilde, Tanya Poncelet, Tasha Poncelet, Tara Poncelet, and Tonya (Geoff) Derdall; 14 great grandchildren; 1 sister; Esther E.O. Bork of Sioux Falls; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands, Albert and Henry; 2 great grandchildren, Madison Cihak, and Noah Wilde; 1 son-in-law, Raymond Cihak; 3 brothers, William Moses Horsten, George Horsten, and an infant boy; 6 sisters, Rena Meyer, Gertrude Meyer, Edna Haak, Lavina Horsten, Viola Dolly Horsten, and B. Lucille Horsten.
