Velma Eining, 101, entered her perfect eternal dance on July 26, 2026. Born on June 1, 1925, to Basil and Verna Maria (Peters) Rogers, Velma's 101 years spanned the Great Depression, World War II, and a century of remarkable change. Through it all, she remained a light and a quiet strength to to her family and friends.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Huron. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Velma was born and raised near Forestburg, South Dakota, where life included dirt floors, outhouses, and the hardships of the Great Depression. As a teenager, she married Kenneth "Johnny" Eining. Together they raised two children, Karen Dee Eining Voorhees and Bill Eining. Their journey took them to homes in both South Dakota and Illinois before eventually settling in Huron, South Dakota, where Velma spent most of her adult life. She worked hard throughout her life and eventually retired from Northwestern Energy.

Later in life, Velma's greatest joy was dancing. Often dressed up (and sometimes in costume), alongside her dear friend and dance partner, Stan Clausen, she spent countless hours dancing, laughing, and embracing a second childhood. After she was unable to attend her dances, she found joy gathered around Karen and Merlin's table, playing Whist with them and her oldest grandson, Steve. Her quiet moments often included reciting of the Rosary, reminding us of her faith.

For the last decade of her life, Velma made her home in Onida, South Dakota, close to her daughter's family. At 100 years young, she fulfilled a dream by traveling to Hawaii with her daughter and family, including five grandchildren, and nearly all of her great-grandchildren. During the final week of her life, she enjoyed one last vacation with her beloved brother, Dale, and his wife, Gayle in Arizona—a special time together before her journey home.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth "Johnny" Eining; her son, William (Bill) Eining; grandson, Adrian Lee Voorhees; sisters, Sharon Brown and Wava Barta; and her beloved dance partner, Stan Clausen.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Karen (Merlin) Voorhees; her brother, Dale (Gayle) Rogers of Arizona; her grandchildren, Stephen Voorhees, Patrick (Tacea) Voorhees, Signe Voorhees, Emily (Joe) Sovell and Charles "Chuck" Voorhees (Anjar). Her 10 great-grandchildren: Reese, Sheridan and Tatum Voorhees; Samantha (Ryker) Olson, Craig Jibben, Shannon Watson and Tamra Voorhees; Josie and Justice Sovell, Aidan Voorhees; her great-great-granddaughter, Sabine; special great-niece, Lexey, and many other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
