Obituary

Ursula "Gert" Delvaux, age 100, of Huron, SD, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 4, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Visitation with family present will be Thursday, April 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m.; or Friday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation of her body will take place after the funeral with burial of her cremated remains at St. Patrick Cemetery in Cavour at a later date. Ursula Delvaux was born Ursula Gertrude Coughlin, daughter of William and Margaret (Daley) Coughlin, on December 6, 1913, in Yale, SD. She attended school in Yale through the 7th grade then attended and graduated from Cavour High School in 1932. She moved to Sioux Falls where she attended secretarial school. On September 12, 1933, Ursula married Laurence Delvaux in Cavour. They lived on a farm southeast of Cavour until 1942 when they moved into Cavour. In 1956 the couple moved to Huron, returning to Cavour in 1966. Her husband, Laurence, died on December 31, 1984. Ursula moved to Huron in 2007, and in June 2013 she became a resident of Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. For the first several years of their marriage Ursula raised her family and also worked at various jobs in the Cavour area. In 1957 she began work as a nurse's aide on the maternity floor at St. John's Hospital in Huron retiring from there in 1978. She was a past member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Altar Society in Cavour; and presently a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. Ursula, was loved by all, put great faith in the Lord, loved her family, cherished her friends, played a mean game of cards and claimed that she could out fish anyone. The Lord couldn't ask for a better person to sit by his side. Ursula is survived by 6 children, Jim (Arlie) Delvaux of Sioux Falls, Larry (Connie) Delvaux of Yankton, Mary Margaret Whitcomb of Atwater, MN, Virginia (Gary) Lobash of Coon Rapids, MN, John (Rosemarie) Delvaux of Woonsocket, and Frank (Joyce) Delvaux of Brookings; 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; son-in-law, Larry "Butch" Peterson of Wolsey; daughter-in-law, Mary Delvaux of Lincoln, NE; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Laurence Delvaux; 4 sisters; 1 brother; and 3 children, Paul Delvaux, JoAnn Peterson, and Bill Delvaux.
