Obituary

Treva A. Hopper, age 79, of 360 20th St. SE, Huron, SD, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Huron with burial at the Riverside Cemetery, Huron.

Visitation will be Monday, December 15, from 3-8 p.m., at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service Tuesday morning. Visit www.welterfuneralhome.com.

Treva Angellis Barnes was born April 25, 1929 to Ellis Robert and Angeline (Eberhard) Barnes at home in Alpena, SD. She attended grade school and high school in Alpena graduating in1947. She was baptized as an infant and attended Alpena Methodist Church until she transferred to First United Methodist Church in Huron in 1948.

Treva married Herbert E. Rohrabaugh, Jr. on April 25, 1948 at the First United Methodist Church in Huron. They owned and operated Royal Radiator Repair and later Royal Distributing Company in Huron. She worked for the Habicht Department Store and Northwestern Public Service before beginning her career with the the Federal Government, starting in February 1948 and retiring in April 1984. The agencies she worked for included the Department of Interior, Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Health and Human Services. After her retirement from federal services, she worked as a Kelly Girl in various positions in Rapid City for seven years.

Treva married Lyle J. Hopper in 1974 and they were later divorced. She moved to Rapid City, SD on August 1979, and completed her federal service there. She joined the Methodist Church in Rapid City and after retirement was a volunteer in the church office. Treva returned to Huron in June 1991 due to the failing health of her parents.

Treva was reinstated as a member of the First United Methodist Church in Huron, and served on various committees, was a United Methodist Women member, and served the church in many ways. She was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in both Rapid City and Huron. Treva enjoyed working crossword puzzles, crocheting, baking, and corresponding with many people. She also had a great love for dogs.

She is survived by her 3 nieces, Michelle Sexton, Huron, SD, Sheila Phillips, Pueblo, CO, and Jeanie Allerdings, Huron, SD; a nephew, Timothy Sexton, Ft. Morgan, CO; a grand nephew, Matthew Fischgrabe, Montevideo, MN; 3 grand nieces, Shelby Phillips, Pueblo, CO, and Katelyn and Halee Allerdings, Huron, SD; and five step-children.

Treva was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Trela Sexton; ex-husband, Herbert (Ed) Rohrabaugh, Jr.: and brother-in-law, Robert Sexton.
