Toni Mondain was born on April 21, 1971, in Huron, South Dakota, to George and Sharon (Nelson) Grayson. She attended Huron schools and graduated from Huron High School in 1989. Toni continued her education at South Dakota State University, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1994, and was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Toni proudly began a career as a registered nurse, a profession that perfectly reflected her natural compassion and caring heart.
On July 1, 1995, Toni married Bradley Rounds at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Huron. Together, Toni and Brad made their home in Huron, where they raised their three daughters, Calla, Maddy, and Libby.
Toni’s nursing career began with Dr. Hiroo Kapur at her clinic, where she quickly became known for her compassionate nature and genuine concern for others. Following Dr. Kapur’s retirement, Toni became the Medicare Coordinator at the Huron Nursing Home, a position she held until 2018. She then continued her career as a Nurse Consultant for the State of South Dakota in Long-Term Services and Support. No matter where her career took her, Toni brought the same dedication, kindness, and compassion to her work. She cared deeply for those she served and was a valued and beloved co-worker.
Outside of her career, Toni found joy in the many people and activities that filled her life. She was a proud Jackrabbit fan and loved attending SDSU sporting events. She enjoyed camping with friends, socializing at Manolis Grocery, golfing, and playing cards and games, where her competitive spirit was always sure to make an appearance.
As her daughters grew, Toni was their biggest supporter and proudest fan. She loved watching Calla, Maddy, and Libby participate in their many activities and was always there to cheer them on. Her daughters were a tremendous source of pride and joy throughout her life.
Above all else, Toni cherished her family. She found her greatest joy in time spent with those she loved, treasuring the laughter and togetherness. Toni also had a love for traveling and experiencing new places. She enjoyed the adventure of discovering somewhere new and embracing each journey along the way. She will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and the lasting impact she had on all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Brad of Huron; her daughters, Calla of Sioux Falls, Maddy of Huron, Libby (Brandon Decker) of Huron; her dad, George Grayson of Huron; her brother, Tim (Connie) Grayson of Huron; her siblings-in-law, Mary Rounds of Tulsa, OK; Dave Rounds of Midland, TX; Keith (Cathy) Rounds of Brookings; Kent (Nancy) Rounds of Glenwood, IA; Ann Salter of Dyersville, IA; Jeff Rounds of Huron; Gerry (Barb) Rounds of Aurora; Richard (Melissa) Rounds of Springfield, OR; and Cathy (Dave) Eide of Watertown; her aunts, Sandy Selland, Connie Hackett, and Linda Bauer; and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
