Thomas E. (Tom) Sunderman, age 55, of Huron, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at his sister's home in Lilydale, Minnesota due to an accidental drowning.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 15 at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron.
Visitation will be from 3-7 pm with the family present from 5-7 pm and a time of sharing at 6:30 pm on Friday, September 14 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
Family encourages friends and acquaintances to wear purple and gold to Tom's services.
Thomas Edward Sunderman was born on November 14, 1962 in Huron, South Dakota to Edward and VA (McGlone) Sunderman. He grew up in Huron and graduated from Huron High School. Tom worked at various places but was most satisfied when he could get people home safe.
Tom was a fun-loving man with a quick wit and a hearty laugh. He was always willing to help others in need. He was kind and charitable, giving to local charities. His family and friends were important to him.
Tom was an avid and loyal Vikings fan; you could hear him cheering miles away! One of his favorite moments was visiting the new Vikings training facilities. He was looking forward to seeing a game at the new US Bank Stadium to cheer on his team.
Tom is survived by two brothers: Mike (Connie) Sunderman of Sioux City, IA, and Bill (Karen) Sunderman of Huron; three sisters: Liz (Bill) Fisher of Huron, Kathy (Ron) Curr of Huron, Judy (Ted) Haley of Lillydale, MN; twelve nieces and nephews: Jill (Brad) Jurgens, Tim (Sarah) Sunderman, Tyler (Terra) Fisher, Amy (Justin) Lindquist, Brian Curr, Christy (Josh) Vangsness, Laura (Jim) Allen, Jeff Sunderman, Sam (AJ Tischleder) Haley, Abby Haley, Josh Haley, and Erin Haley; and eleven great nieces and nephews and many friends who were part of his family.
He was preceded in death by his father Edward in 1997 and mother VA on August 29, 2018, and infant sister, Mary.
Tom's love of dogs, especially Boxers, can live on through his family and friends by directing memorials to Tom's favorite charity, the Beadle County Humane Society, in lieu of flowers.
