Obituary

Thomas 'Gene' Healy, age 57, of 1163 Frank Ave. SE, Huron, died Sunday, November 21, 2005, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His Memorial Service will be at 1:30 PM Saturday, November 26, at the Huron Wesleyan Church with Rev. Robert Theis officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be at the Wessington Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Thomas Eugene Healy was born on February 3, 1948, to Thomas A. and Fauneil (Stubbs) Healy at Wenatchee, WA. As a young child he moved with his family to Wessington, SD, where he attended school, and in 1962 moved to Huron, where he attended and graduated from Huron High School. On April 27, 1967, he entered the U.S. Army and served with the 13th Artillery Group stationed in Korea. He was honorably discharged on January 5, 1970. He returned to Huron where he worked as an auto mechanic for Jones Company, then Howard Bill Gas Station, Apple Lines Trucking Company, as a diesel mechanic for Concrete Products, and drove truck for RP Inc., of Wolsey. He retired in August of 1999 due to ill health. On June 9, 1989, Gene married Rebecca "Becky" Hofhenke in Huron. He was a member of the National Hot Rod Association and was an avid drag-car racer who raced at Thunder Valley Speedway at Marion and at Topeka, KS. He was a Mopar enthusiast, enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, motorcycles, camping, and the Internet. He is survived by 1 step-son, Dustin (Sally) Hofhenke of Huron; 1 step-daughter, Sherry (Jeremey) Frost of Pierre; 6 grandchildren, Ben Renner, Jeremy Morgan, Jennifer Martin, Brandon Martin, Sebastian Frost, and Dani Frost; and 1 uncle, Dwight Stubbs of Wessington. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his good friend, Doug Toelle.
