Obituary

Thomas R. Hafner, age 86, of South Hutchinson, KS and formerly of Alpena, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2020 at his home in Kansas. His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation, with his family present, will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday morning.

Thomas Raymond Hafner was born on December 31, 1933 to parents Jacob and Caroline (Brenner) Hafner in Alpena, South Dakota. Thomas grew up on the family farm near Alpena, attending schools in the Alpena area.

Tom was a farmer and rancher his entire life with his brother Jake. He enjoyed farming and watching the Mollie B. Polka Party. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron.

Tom married Florence Stauffer Lee on November 3, 1995 in Atwood, Kansas.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and sister Loretta (Dwayne) Petersen.

He is survived by his wife, Florence of Hutchinson, KS; stepsons, Robert (Stacy) Lee of St. Louis, MO and William Lee of Hutchinson, KS; brother Jacob Hafner of Alpena; sisters Marilyn (Vernal) Hanson of Huron and Linda (Gary) Evensen of Rapid City and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Virgil United Methodist Church or Feeding South Dakota.
