Obituary

Thomas L. Flolo, age 75, of 1601 Ohio Ave SW, in Huron, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at his home. His funeral mass will be at 10:30 AM Friday, June 8, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Entombment will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call this Thursday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Friday morning. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM this Thursday evening at the funeral home with family present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Thomas Lloyd Flolo was born on August 8, 1931, to Lloyd and Ann (Artz) Flolo at Aberdeen, South Dakota. The family moved to Ellendale, North Dakota, and later Tom moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota, were he attended St. Johns Catholic School. He moved to Huron in 1947 as a Sophomore in high school and graduated from Huron High School in 1949. On September 30, 1947, Tom joined the South Dakota National Guard for a 3-year enlistment. On August 31, 1950, just one month prior to his discharge, he was activated into the U.S. Army (due to the start of the Korean War) and stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia. During this period of time Tom married Bonnie Peterson. Following his honorable discharge on September 29, 1951, he returned to Huron to work with his parents at Flolo Studio. On November 6, 1973, Tom married Betty Jean Dunnick. They owned and operated Flolo Photography and One Hour Photofinishing in Huron. They retired in 1988 and moved to Lake Byron, spending their winter months in Harlingen, Texas. Tom was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. He enjoyed living at the lake, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Huron; 4 children, Suzie (Bob) McCandless of Red Lodge, Montana, Sally (Mark) McCullough of Jackson, Wyoming, Russell (Linda) Flolo of Sioux Falls, and Jack (Julie) Flolo of Hailey, Idaho; 3 step-children, Dixie Dunnick of Huron, Vickie (Teri) Zwieg of Huron, and Rodney (Marsha) Dunnick of Sioux Falls; 1 brother, John (Helene) Flolo of San Jose, California; 1 sister, Shirley Bahde of Aberdeen; 20 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 1 brother-in-law, Luverne (Juanita) Better of Wolsey. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and sister; 1 son, James Flolo; 1 brother-in-law, Buck Bahde; and 1 step granddaughter, Dacotah Kouf.
