Obituary

Thomas Beerman, age 65, of Huron, SD, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at St. Martin Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with Stations of the Cross service at 7:00 p.m.; or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. The family can be reached at the Tom and Sandy Beerman residence, 2414 Prairie Eagle Circle in Huron. Thomas William Beerman, son of William and Olivia (Greschke) Beerman, on March 31, 1947, at Huron, SD. He attended St. Theresa Catholic elementary school and graduated from Huron High School in 1965. He worked for Fairmont Foods delivering milk. On April 14, 1966, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam, the second time volunteering for duty. He was honorably discharged as SSgt on February 9, 1970. Upon his return to Huron he began working for OK Tire until 1976. On January 7, 1972, Tom married Peggy Hopper in Huron. In 1976 he joined the Huron police force serving there until 1987 when he was elected sheriff of Beadle County. On July 25, 1986, Tom married Sandra King in Huron. He retired from the sheriff's office in February 2010. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish; Knights of Columbus; VFW Forrest McMullen Post #1776 and past commander; American Legion William Reaves Post #7. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for the following organizations: St. Martin Catholic School - Safety Council -Huron Area Senior Citizens - H&B Credit Union and past president - and the South Dakota Sheriff's Association. He was part of a team that provided security for car-racing at Dakota Speedway and also other area events. His many interests included raising show pigeons for which he won many awards, fishing, hunting, gardening, the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. When he was in grade school he worked for Valley Gardens in Huron. He is survived by his wife, Sandy of Huron; 1 son, Tony Beerman of Huron; 1 daughter, Laura (Scott) Jones of Huron; 3 step-children, Michelle (Bob) Eldridge of Bristow, VA, Jeff (Christa) Horn of Wolsey, and Amber (Wayne) Langbehn of Worthing; 7 grandchildren, Ava Beerman, Tyler Horn, Tanner Horn, Taylor Horn, Brendan Langbehn, Jase Langbehn, and Rylan Langbehn; 3 sisters, Camille ("Chris") Christie of Sparks, NV, Mary (Tom) Bell of Brookings, and Nancy (David) Engebretson of Meckling, SD; 1 brother, Jim (Renae) Beerman of Thousand Palms, CA; 1 sister-in-law, Rolayne Beerman of Atwater, MN; 2 aunts, Tootie (KO) Kauth of Huron, and Margaret Greschke of Huron; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Paulette Leeman; 1 brother, Paul Beerman; several aunts and uncles.
