Obituary

Theora Maxine Volesky, age 87, of Huron, SD passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Huron Regional Medical Center with her family at her side.

Her funeral service will be at 9:00 am on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with interment at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, March 8th, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Theora was born on August 15, 1929 to Carl and Thirza "Dolly" (Eggleston) Haugen. At age four, Theora moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1933 and lived there until 1936, when they returned to farm SE of Huron. Theora attended the Miner Country School by Cavour and then room and boarded in Huron to attend Huron High School.  After graduating in 1947, she attend NW College of Commerce and worked evenings at Ray's Grocery Store. This is where she met the milk deliveryman, LeRoy Volesky; they were united in marriage 6 months later on August 13, 1948.

After their marriage, they purchased a new 23 foot trailer and lived there until they built a basement house where their first son, LaVoy, was born in 1953. In 1955, they moved to a farm 3 miles west of Huron where their first daughter, Elthea, was born in 1958. Five years later, they were blessed with their second daughter, Sharla in 1962, and second son, Rickie in 1963. The family moved to a dairy farm six miles west of Huron near Wolsey in 1968.  While on the farm, Theora did all the bookkeeping for the family business, did all the yard work along with planting a huge vegetable garden and many flower gardens.  She loved to bake, make large family meals, and canned many fruits and vegetables.  After retiring in 1996, they built a home in Huron, where they resided until Theora's passing.

Theora was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where she was active in LWML, taught Sunday School, and in her later years assisted with the church preschool.  She was a member of the Jolly Doers' Extension Club and loved playing Whist with her fellow CC Club members. Her and LeRoy loved traveling in their motorhome and spending time at Hart Ranch Resort, near Rapid City, SD with their family and friends.  Theora was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and was always there for them.  Her family was the love of her life.

Theora is survived by her husband, LeRoy; their four children, LaVoy (Sue) Volesky, Boerne, TX; Elthea (Darold) Danley, Sioux Falls, SD; Sharla (Ken) Mees, Huron, SD; and Rick (Jen) Volesky, Webster, SD; their eleven grandchildren, Angie (Tommy) Gass, Chris (Katie) Peterson, Kasey (Steff) Danley, Korey (Tiffany) Danley, Tristina (Arnold) Gonzalez, Dustin (Gina) Mees, Trustin (Rachel) Volesky, Kelsey (Amanda) Mees, Alexa Volesky, McKenzie Volesky, Mariah Volesky; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl (Nina) Haugen and Lyle (Marrianne) Haugen; sister/brothers-in-law, Trudy Armstrong, Dorothy Volesky, and Ron Volesky.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Dolly Haugen; brothers-/sisters-in-law, Kenny (Sunny) Volesky, Kaehl Volesky, Duane Armstrong, and Twila Volesky.
