Thelma R. Gilland, age 78, of 110 Quapaw, Iroquois, SD, died Friday January 1, 2010 at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at the Welter Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m., Monday, January 4, at the funeral home; or one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Thelma R. Snyder, the daughter of Joe and Martha Ann (Hendrickson) Snyder, was born on September 16, 1931, in Iroquois, SD. She attended Iroquois schools. On July 4, 1951, Thelma married Lloyd Gilland in Huron, SD. They enjoyed 50 some years together before Lloyds death in 2004. During their marriage, the couple lived many places, always following Lloyds work with the railroad. In their later years, they made their home in Iroquois, SD. Thelma remained in her home until her recent illness this past week. Thelma worked in housekeeping and at various other things, wherever they made their home.
Thelma attended the Trinity United Methodist Church in Iroquois.
Grateful for having shared in Thelmas life are her brother, Charles (Betty) Snyder of Canistota, SD; sister, Leona Sawvell of Pomona, CA; sister-in-law, Deanna Snyder of Iroquois, SD; a host of nieces and nephews; and many, many dear friends.
