Teresa Buckmeier, age 94, of Richardson, TX, and formerly of 1131 9th St. SW, Huron, died of pneumonia on Sunday, February 27, 2005, at the Life Care Nursing Center at Plano, TX. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, March 4, at the Welter Funeral Home with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Friday, with the family present, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Gideons International. Teresa Buckmeier was born Teresa Vetter on March 17, 1910, to Peter and Mary (Burckhardt) Vetter on the family homestead 11 miles south of Bison, SD, in a sod house which the family occupied until 1925. She attended Lone Tree Elementary School 3 miles from home, and graduated from Bison High School in 1929. She completed 1 year of business school at the Aberdeen Business College in 1930. On July 17, 1930, Teresa married John Buckmeier at Bison. Job opportunities took Teresa and John to Massachusetts and New York, returning to South Dakota where Johns 38 year career with Northwestern Public Service Company began, starting in Huron, then to Bismarck, ND, Aberdeen, Redfield, Mitchell, and moving to Huron in 1961. Teresa was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish (Church of the Resurrection). She was an avid card player, especially bridge, hosting many bridge parties. She enjoyed the outdoors, working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Her travels with John included numerous vacations around the country and visits with family and friends. Several road trips were made to Alaska to visit her son, Darrell, and family. Teresa and John moved to Richardson, TX, in March of 1998, to be near their son, Francis, and family. She is survived by 2 sons, Francis (Evelyn) Buckmeier of Richardson, TX, and Darrell (Charlene) Buckmeier of Anchorage, AK; 1 daughter-in-law, Jane Buckmeier of San Diego, CA; 20 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Steve (Alice) Vetter of Bison, SD, and Frank (Lou) Vetter of Bison, SD; 1 sister, Elizabeth Loughlin of Sturgis, SD; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John on April 1, 1999; 1 son, Arlen Buckmeier; 4 brothers, John, Louis, Marcus, and Adam Vetter; 1 sister, Mary Helen Jacobs; 4 sisters-in-law, Gladys, Barbara, Opal, and Laura Vetter; and 2 brothers-in-law, Lloyd Loughlin, and Elwood Jacobs.
