Ted North, age 84, of Huron, died Thursday, August 22, 2013, at SunQuest Village in Huron. His funeral service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8 pm Monday, August 26, 2013, at Welter Funeral Home with a 7:00 pm prayer service; or Tuesday afternoon one hour prior to the service. Ted North was born on February 4, 1929 near Howard, SD, to Frank and Mable (Bates) North. He attended schools in Fedora and Miner County. Ted married Joyce Hofer on February 21, 1948 in Woonsocket. The couple made their home in Huron. Ted worked at Armours for many years until the plant closed. He and Joyce then started Ted's Upholstery business, where they worked together for many years. Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and bowling. He was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church, National Bowling Association, and several bowling leagues. Ted is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce North of Huron; three daughters, Kathleen (Ron) West of Huron, Karen (Joe) Schnell of Lake Preston, Debra (Michael) Bathke of George, IA; four grandchildren, Natalie (Brad) Micheel of Sioux Falls, Melissa (Robbie) Baruth of Alpena, Joshua Bathke of Harrisburg, Matthew Bathke of Spirit Lake, IA; six great grandchildren, Gabriella and Zane Micheel, Jaycee, Samuel, McKenzie, and Addyson Baruth; sister Carolyn Styer of Huron; two sisters-in-law, Ann North of Howard, Carol North of Huron; many nieces and nephews. Ted was proceeded in death by his parents; grandson, Michael Hershman in 1998; 7 sisters, Goldie, Ella, Alice, Madge, Sylvia, Sarah, Nellie; seven brothers, Arthur, Harold, Marvin, Lloyd, Leon, Darwin, and Delbert.
