Sylvia Bergerson, age 90, of Cedar Park, TX, and formerly of Huron, awoke in the presence of the Lord on Thursday, January 27, 2005, at the Hearthstone Health Center at Round Rock, TX. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 9, at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday afternoon. The family will be present from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Sylvia Bergerson was born Sylvia Margaret Simon on November 7, 1914, to Mathias Matt and Grace (Clark) Simon on a farm near Lebanon, SD. She attended country school and then high school at Lebanon. In the early 1930s she came to Huron and studied under Dr. John Tschetter at the Samaritan Hospital where she worked as a medical technician. On January 5, 1935, Sylvia married Harold Bergerson and to this union two children were born, Shirley Anne and Gary. In addition to raising her family, Sylvia worked at the Sears Store as a catalog manager for 20 years. Sylvia was a member of the American Lutheran Church for more than 60 years and took part in many of the church activities. She was also a member of the PTA, Degree of Honor Lodge and sold juvenile insurance, worked with the Girl Scouts, and helped with school lunches. Sylvia moved to Texas in August of 2001 to be closer to her family. She is survived by 1 daughter, Shirley Anne (Joseph) Faulkner of San Antonio, TX; 1 son, Gary (Dolores) Bergerson of Cedar Park, TX; 4 grandchildren, Michael (Kay) Faulkner, Ryan (Tiffany) Bergerson, Robin Bergerson, and Lisa (Ashley) Cotton; 3 great granddaughters, Aloytia Faulkner, Mandala Faulkner, and Tori Cotton; 2 sisters, Edith Baus of Ipswich, SD, and Victorine (Frank) Schlezes of Rochelle, IL; 2 brothers, Royce (Betty) Simon of Lebanon, SD, and Gerald (Yula) Simon of Sioux City, IA; 1 brother-in-law, Herb Benck of Wichita, KS; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, Harold on January 29, 2001; 2 brothers, Edward Simon, and Sylvester Simon; 5 sisters, a stillborn and a year later her twin, Althea, Lavicia Vikre, Lucille Kuhns, and Joyce Benck; 2 sisters-in-law, June Simon, and Mary Ellen Simon; 3 brothers-in-law, Hans Vikre, Lee Kuhns, and Alfred Baus. Pallbearers will be Ronald Simon, Rod Simon, Jason Simon, Stuart Simon, Bryan Simon, and Kent Simon.
