Susan Lemus, age 59, of Huron, SD, died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 16, 2014, in Sioux Falls. Her body has been cremated and her memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 20, at Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron. Memorial visitation with family present will be Wednesday, February 19, from 5-7 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home. Susan Lemus was born Susan Jadean Barrie, daughter of Don and Doris (Boynton) Barrie, on December 26, 1954, in Watertown, SD. She attended school in San Manuel, AZ. During her high school years she visited with her grandmother in Conde, SD, and stayed with her for 2 years and attended high school in Conde, then returning to San Manuel. On April 30, 1971, Susan married Rudy Lemus in Mammoth, AZ. The couple lived there until the Fall of 1975. Susan then moved to Doland, SD, where she worked as a waitress at the Doland Café. Later she moved to Huron and worked as a waitress and also at the coffee shop in the Federal Building. She moved to Aberdeen and worked at the Federal Building in the same capacity, returning to Huron in 2011. Her many interests included love for her dogs Tabby and Reesa, music, Minnesota Vikings, and spending time camping especially at Lake Byron. Her favorite past time was traveling in the "co-pilot" position. She is survived by 1 daughter, Cassandra Lemus (and her fiancé Don Knowler) of Sioux Falls; 6 grandchildren, Marissa Fernandez, Marianna Fernandez, Amanda Knowler, Kayla (Nathan) Obeslo, Tessa Knowler, and Brad Knowler; 1 great grandson, Cayden Obeslo; her mother, Doris Loban of Huron; 5 siblings, Lance (Cindy) Loban of Huron, Lyla Jo (Kurt) Ver Meer of Sioux Falls, Dean Barrie of Huron, Randy (Sandy) Barrie of Denver, CO, and Darla (Kevin) Stordahl of Sioux Falls; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents; father, Don Barrie; and step-father, Lyle Loban.
