Steven Kenneth Soderman was born June 7, 1955 to Mary Jane Somrock and Kenneth Edwin Soderman at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, MN.
Steve grew up in Deerwood, MN, and graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School in Crosby, MN, in 1974. After high school, he earned a degree as a Certified Auto Mechanic from Brainerd Vocational Technical Institute. From 1974 to 1984, Steven held many positions, including working at the State Hospital in Brainerd, working in a taconite mine on the Massabe Range as a Track Boss for US Steel, in a sawmill with his father and at the Houston Ford dealership in Brainerd. In 1985, Steven became a licensed Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic which led him to work for Eastern Airlines in Bangor, ME as a maintenance controller. Steve also worked at Elliott Beechcraft in Des Moines, IA before starting his own business in 1989 to 1991. He and his wife owned and operated Winterset Aviation in Winterset, IA. He later worked alongside his family at Biever's Bulk Sales in Iroquois, opening the station in the mornings for his father-in-law Bob, as a fuel delivery driver and commercial sprayer along with shop work and many other duties. Most recently, Steven spent fourteen years as a Maintenance Supervisor at Dakota Provisions.
Steve married Diane Biever on December 27, 1986, at American Lutheran Church in Huron, SD. From this union were born Seth, Caleb, and Candra.
When seeking peace, Steven and his family could often be found at his Grandma Somrock's cabin on Pequaywan Lake, north of Duluth, MN. He loved hunting pheasant, quail, deer and of course, fishing. He raised and trained his own hunting dogs, as his father did. Steve was also an accomplished cook who excelled at grilling, canning and baking. He took pride in making his own barbecue sauce and bread. Above all, he cherished escaping the busyness of life to enjoy a slower pace at the family cabin. He shared his love of camping, fishing, and hunting with his family, generously offering his time, knowledge, and skills to those close to him.
Honored to have shared in his life are his wife of 38 years, Diane Soderman; his children, Seth Soderman of Huron, SD, Caleb (MuNaw) Soderman of Huron, SD, Candra (Jared) Forest of Clark, SD, Ryan (Sonia) Soderman of OK, and Megan Soderman of MN; his grandchildren: Paw, Declan, Anna Marie Soderman; McKoy, Aysling, Cullen, Ivar and Sylvie Jane Forest; Carlos, Hunter, Tatianna, Dawsyn, Coltyn, Tristyn, Landyn; Mya, Elle and Olivia Soderman; dear brother Mark (Deb) Soderman of Cottage Grove, MN, sister Cheryle Melander of MN, sister Barbie (Ben) Welshon of Stillwater, MN, Gary (Joan) Biever of Iroquois, Craig (Becky) Biever of Huron and Sioux Falls; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Maxine and Bob Biever, for whom he held special gratitude; brother-in-law Dennis Melander; and his best bud and cousin, Greg Somrock.
