Steven L. Mastel, age 56, of Yankton, and formerly of Huron, died Sunday, January 4, 2015 at his residence. Cremation has taken place and his memorial service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, January 16th at Welter Funeral Home. Memorial visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service. Steven was born on February 4, 1958 in Huron to Lawrence and Ethel (Nelson) Mastel. He graduated from Huron High School and then entered the US Navy on February 5, 1979 and served until January 4, 1983. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended the Lake Area Vo Tech in Watertown. Over the years, Steven enjoyed fishing, camping, watching old westerns, and reminiscing about his time at sea and the places he was able to visit while he served in the Navy. He is survived by 2 sons, Jason Mastel and Steven Mastel, both of Huron; 2 daughters, Kristie Mastel of Fargo and Stephanie (Ricky Timm) Mastel of Wolsey; his mother, Ethel Mastel of Watertown, 3 grandchildren; 2 brothers, David (Sue) Mastel of Huron and Arland (Karen) Mastel of Wallace, SD; 2 sisters, Lois Dorris of Huron and Linda (Ron) Babb of Wasilla, AK . He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence, 1 brother, Michael Mastel and 1 brother-in-law Jim Dorris.
