Obituary

Steve Alexander, age 59, of 774 15th St. SE, Huron, SD, died Sunday, September 13, 2009, at his home.

His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 17, at American Lutheran Church. Burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council.

Visitation on Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present 6-8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m.; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.

Steven Jerald Alexander, son of Rodney and Marilyn (Hegg) Alexander, was born on February 4, 1950, in Huron, SD. He attended Jackson #2 Grade School near Woonsocket from 1956-1964; Woonsocket High School graduating in 1968; and Huron College for 1 year.

On July 14, 1968, Steven joined the South Dakota Air National Guard and served as an Avionics Navigational Systems Specialist. He was honorably discharged as a SSgt on July 13, 1974.

On November 24, 1989, Steve married Eunice Brooks in Huron.

Steve worked for Costains Appliance Store 1968-1970; and Kapples TV Sales & Repair 1970-1979. In 1979, Steve purchased Freddies Electric Motor which he owned and operated until August of 2009. Steve and Eunice also owned Dakota Restaurant Supply from 1991 until August of 2009.

He was a member of American Lutheran Church; BCSC (Beadle County Sportsmans Club); Great Plains Snowtrailers; EASA (Electrical Apparatus Service Association); William Reaves American Legion Post #7 of Huron; Ducks Unlimited; Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation; and Huron Elks Lodge.

Steves pride and joy were his 5 grandchildren. His other interests included hunting, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice of Huron; 4 children, Jack (Rachel) Alexander of Vermillion, SD, Kate (James) Seale of Minneapolis, MN, Amy (Chad) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, and Terra (Jason) Kettwig of Milbank, SD; 5 grandchildren, Tanner Kettwig, Ty Kettwig, Jocelyn Kettwig, Olivia Johnson, and Emma Johnson; his parents, Rod and Loraine Alexander of Huron, SD; brother and sisters, Scott (Deb) Alexander of Alpena, SD, Rhonda Wallum of De Smet, SD, Lisa (Kevin) Opsahl of Yankton, SD, Barb (Steve) Andersen of Yankton, SD, and Ronda (Kevin) Tiede of Rapid City, SD.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Alexander; and a brother-in-law, Jeff Wallum.
