Shirley Smith, age 74, of rural Hitchcock and formerly of Fort Lupton, CO, died Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Sanford USD Medical Center at Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 15th at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home or one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday afternoon. Shirley Smith was born Shirley Lois Vogt on January 10, 1933, to Herbert and Marjorie Elsworth (True) Vogt at Prospect Valley, CO. She attended Westwood Elementary School and West High School. On November 5, 1949, Shirley married Paul Stanton Smith at Denver, Colorado. She lived in the Denver area from 1933 until 1982 when they moved to Fort Lupton, CO. In 1997, they moved to Woonsocket and in 2002 they moved to Miles City, MT. And in 2007, they moved to rural Hitchcock. For the last 30 years she has been an auction owner and antique dealer. Her hobbies and interests are the Denver Broncos, cooking, country music, gambling and taking care of family and friends. She is survived by her husband Paul of rural Hitchcock; 2 children, Paula (Ronnie) Morganflash of Fort Lupton, CO and Hal (Chris) Smith of rural Hitchcock; 6 grandchildren, Jason (Juanita) Smith, Shahn (Marianna) Morganflash, Eric (Dawn) Smith, Brett Morganflash, Sara (Rafael) Smith and Amie (Charlie) Smith; 14 great grandchildren; and 4 sisters, Jeanne Bell of Billings, MT, Joan Epperly of Silt, CO, Kim (Cookie) List of Fairplay, CO and Kandy Kimble of Wheatridge, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents.
